Income Supports for Individuals & Families

Government of Prince Edward Island 

  • COVID-19 Income Support Fund (one-time payment of $750) applies to individual who have experienced loss of job, lay off, loss of all revenue through self-employment or expiry of Employment Insurance benefits, on or after March 13, 2020; AND have an active application OR intend to apply for support through one of the following the federal government programs: Employment Insurance Benefits or Canada Emergency Response Benefits. 

  • Temporary Rental Assistance Benefit will provide temporary rental assistance to renters who are struggling to pay their rent as a result of income loss or reduction due to COVID19 measures. Eligible tenants will have the benefit paid directly to their landlord, benefiting both the landlord and the tenant. The benefit is $1,000/household to help cover the costs for a three month period in allotments of $500, $250 and $250.  

Government of Canada

  • Employment Insurance (EI) provides regular benefits to individuals who lose their jobs through no fault of their own (for example, due to shortage of work, seasonal or mass lay-offs) and are available for and able to work, but can't find a job.

  • Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCB) will increase up to an extra $300 per child for 2019-20. This will mean approximately $550 more for the average family. This benefit will be delivered as part of the scheduled CCB payment in May.

  • Goods and Services Tax Payment (GST Cheque) will be provided as a one-time special payment starting April 9 through the Goods and Services Tax credit for low- and modest-income families. The average additional benefit will be close to $400 for single individuals and close to $600 for couples.
